8-, 32-Bit Devices Expand Automotive MCU Line

Staff  |   ED Online ID #13614  |   September 26, 2006

Significantly expanding its all-flash microcontroller product line, NEC Electronics America has introduced two series of MCUs optimized for automotive applications. The 8-bit Fx2 series includes 13 devices based on the 78K0 CPU core, and the 32-bit Fx3 series includes 16 MCUs based on the V850ES CPU core. All the devices use the company's 0.15-micron process technology and feature embedded flash memory optimized for automotive body and safety control applications. Memory configurations range from 32 kbytes to 1 Mbyte, with pin counts from 44 to 176.

All of the MCUs support the controller area network (CAN) and local interconnect network (LIN) protocols. The devices in both the 78K0/Fx2 ad V850ES/Fx3 series are pin-compatible with NEC Electronics' previous-generation 78K0/Fx1+ and V850ES/Fx2 MCUs, providing an easy migration path to the new devices. The company's all-flash product line now includes 175 MCUs in 8- and 32-bit widths, a wide variety of memory capacities, and packages options suited for a range of applications.

Samples of the 78K0/Fx2 series MCUs are available now with volume production scheduled for October. Samples of the V850ES/Fx3 series devices are scheduled to be available shortly, with volume production expected in December. For prices, contact the company at (800) 366-9782.
