2008 INTERNATIONAL CES — Intel unveiled 16 new chips, including its first 45-nanometer processors for Centrino-based laptops.

All of the chips feature Intel's high-k plus metal gate (hk+mg) transistor formula and its 45-nm manufacturing process.

Among the 16 new chips, twelve are designed for laptops and desktops, while four are for servers. All are lead-free and halogen-free.

Five mobile processors are the foundation of Intel's Centrino technology for laptops. The company said the chips will deliver improved content and video capabilities with HD DVDa and Blu-Ray support.

Three quad-core and four dual-core 45nm-based processors for mainstream desktop PCs will arrive later this month, while the four Xeon processors for servers will ship later in the quarter.

Later this year, Intel said it will release small, low-powered chips that will deliver broadband Internet access in devices small enough to fit "in your pocket." These processors, to be used in ultra mobile and mobile Internet devices, are up to 25 percent smaller than previous versions.
