Stereo Audio DAC For SACD Players Samples Up To 192 kHz

Ashok Bindra  |   ED Online ID #2415  |   June 24, 2002

The AD1955 24-bit stereo audio digital-to-analog converter (DAC) is designed for use in high-end super audio CD (SACD) players and a variety of other consumer and professional equipment. Based on a multibit sigma-delta modulator, it provides 123 dB of dynamic range using its mono-mode format. It offers a 120-dB signal-to-noise ratio and better than -110 dB of total harmonic distortion and noise (THD+N). In fact, the AD1955 accepts a wide range of PCM sample rates, including 32, 44.1, 88.2, 96, and 192 kHz. This audio DAC uses a flexible serial data input for glueless interconnection to a variety of analog to digital converters, DSPs, SACD decoders, external digital filters, AES/EBU receivers, and sample rate converters. Operating at a 5-V supply in a 28-lead SSOP package, it costs $6.78 each in lots of 1000.
