  John F. (Jack) Gifford—founder, chairman, chief executive officer, and president of Maxim Integrated Products—is considered to be one of the founding fathers of the analog industry. He cofounded Advanced Micro Devices and remained vice president of marketing and planning until he left to become senior vice president and then president/CEO of Intersil Inc. He was also the first director of analog products at Fairchild Semiconductor. His agricultural upbringing and avid interest in technology have led him to a variety of other business activities. He is founder and president of J. Leal Farms and founder and president of Enslie Industries. He was nominated for National Entrepreneur of the Year by Arthur Young in 1988. He received his degree in electrical engineering in 1963 from the University of California, Los Angeles, which he attended on a baseball scholarship.
